So is it easier for a 501(c) nonprofit in the US to partner up with a Chinese organization in order to get established in China? Are there any precedents or examples? How about tax exemption benefits for locals who donate to such an organization?

I agree this is a very good post as it does lay out the challanges with the ability to set up a program. However that being said we are struggling with the formation of a professional chapter in Shanghai. This chapter would be similar to a BOMA www.boma.org
or IFMA www.ifma.org association we have in the US. Any advice on how to move this forward? As you may be aware they operate under a not for profit status in the US.

Great post. I've recently been researching this subject for our blog. Anyone hoping to do nonprofit work in China or even give to China related causes definitely needs to know this kind of information before they get to far. It's tricky even for those with years of experience.
