Dear Sir/Madam,

I am inquiring about: how can we establish a non-profit organization?
    Where should I form it?
    What are the terms?
    How much does it cost?
What documents do we need to submit?
If we would like to extend the activity of the company what are the possibility?
How many people are required to form a non-profit company?
What kind of institutions do we need to report the company?
Do we need to apply for unique tax or reference number for the company?
How often do we need to report and to whom?
Is the tax return necessary? If yes, how often and to whom?
Does the company have to have local resident involved in?
Can we set a company up without going there in person?

Thank You very much for Your answers to my enquires. I am looking forward to hearing from You.

Best regards,
Király Gáspár

Interesting challenges as a nonprofit (NGO) sector develops in
China: finding the line that provides for a degree of regulation (with public participation in defining the regulations) on the part of government, but not to the point of total control of the NGO sector. This will help the Chinese nation and the Chinese people achieve a semi-public, non-governmental sector that helps advance the developing society in progress today.

I read the Chinese version of Song Qing Ling Foundation episode recently. Good to see such radical development...
Few things occurred to me: first of all, at an organisational level, I am curious to know what kind of governance document for the foundation on the outset of the establishment, what is the current guiding principles for operations? secondly, it is concerning about the innovative model of philanthropy in china? To my understanding china philanthropy is grounded on the mixture of value diagram including Confucius, Taoist, and Buddhism, to what degree that Chinese public would accept "creative" or "value-added" philanthropy? Thirdly, leadership and public awareness education might play a role.

I whole heartedly agree with the importance of a self-regualtory structure and governance and accountability initiatives from the non-profit organizations themselves, irrespective of the law. I would be happy to discuss with any individual organizations, academics, or government officials strategies for going do. I also fully agree that a functional charity sector depends on government, the public, donors, and teh organizations.

I am interested in understanding the application of charitable principles and philanthropy in China. I teach nonprofit management classes at Northeastern University (Boston, MA, USA) and frequently have students from China who are studying in the USA in my marketing and fundraising classes. I will visit China on a Tour in October with Odyssey (a USA tour company) and look forward to learning more. In my marketing class this past spring, we discussed the Buffet/Gates visit to China: How well did these billionaires prepare themselves? In other words, did they do a thorough market analysis of their audience and the situation before they embarked on their trip? Thank you for this post. It helps me better understand situation from inside China.

"Li Dan’s emergence as an activist may have, ironically, hindered his very own ability to assist more AIDS orphans in need."

The author's comment is a puzzling piece of editorializing, since by her/his own reporting, Dongjen is a successful organization which continues to provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS, including much-needed legal services.

Li Dan himself is an award-winning AIDS advocate and it's in part as a result of advocacy and criticism by him and others like him that the government finally began to provide some services to orphans in Henan.
