This week, the judges of the ICC authorized a formal investigation of Kenya’s post-election violence, raising the prospect that political leaders from the East African nation might face trial at the court. In preparation for the Consultative Conference on International Criminal Justice to be held in September at the United Nations in New York, a planning meeting was held in May 2009 in which Hauser Center staff interviewed Silvana Arbia, Registrar of the International Criminal Court, and Giovanni Bassu, Special Advisor on External Relations and Cooperation in the Office of the Registrar, on the role of the Registrar, NGOs and Civil Society.
